Burn Run benefit to support Camp I'm Still Me starts today

The world is on edge with the recent events in Boston and the loss of so many lives in the small Texas town of West. While riders work to wrap their heads around the events and struggle with the terror and senseless loss, this community once again moves forward to lend a helping hand in our own community and beyond.

The eleventh annual Brother's Keepers Burn Run to raise money for the Ark-La-Tex Burn Foundation and Camp I'm Still Me to support child burn victims, will take place this Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, 2013. It lends a certain anxiousness and resolve to support our community and those who may have been affected by the explosion of a fertilizer plant in West. A huge response to a local blood drive at Lifeshare Center is just one of the ongoing initiatives to support these recent tragic events.

Camp I'm Still Me is held in Scottsville, Texas every June at the Scottsville Camp and Conference Center. The campers enjoy air conditioned cabins, pavilion, dining hall, playground, canoeing, swimming pool, fishing on the lake, and much more.

The camp accepts children ages 5 to 17 who have had burn injuries. Thanks to your generous donations and money earned at this event, the camp is FREE for all children, including meals and supplies. The camper to counselor ratio is 4 to 1 or better. During camp week the camp is staffed with members of the Burn Care Team, doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, teachers, social workers, firefighters and adult burn survivors.

Pediatric and adolescent burn survivors from all over Louisiana & surrounding states will participate in activities such as fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing, arts and crafts, volleyball, baseball and more.

The Burn Run events to raise money for Camp I'm Still Me will kick off Friday at Lake Bistineau State Park, area II, in Doyline, LA with a crawfish boil, vendors and live music, beginning at 5:30 pm and an auction at 7 pm tonight.

The Burn Run is one of the largest annual fund raisers in the spring in this area. "The key to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our mind. Organizing and expending our travel budget carefully is a priority for most families. Minimizing expending and costs, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured achievement and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding protecting money while touring is simple: Even if your personal budget is really small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel expenses!..". Many participants bring tents and campers so they can spend the night. Tent camping is free, and RV camping can be reserved through the State Park office or online. RVs have already been positioned in the area as supporters make preparations for the weekend. The main event, a poker run will be held on Saturday, April 20, with registration and first bike out at 9 am and last bike in at 1 pm. Cost is just $25 for the poker run, but the event entry is entirely free, as always. In addition, on Saturday there will be vendors, music, food, a bike show, and a live auction at 1 pm.
