If you are going to Beijing, China, you need to meet Lei. Lei is a local gentleman who possesses a wonderful English speaking ability, knowledge of Chinas history and present, street smarts and patience. Lei has worked as a private English speaking guide for years. I had already suffered through a disappointing group tour to the Great Wall with a company that did not live up to my expectations and I was near Tiananmen Square when I met him. When I met him, my trip took a turn for the better.
It was a stiflingly, hot and frustrating summer day. Lei was able to give safety tips and insight I could not even find on the US government website for travelers. He also gave me a break from confusion by explaining Chinese landmarks, history, and symbolism. You will find Lei to be very honest and incredibly reasonable.
