Saturday Market is a Portland staple and a must-see on everyones travel list when visiting. March 2nd marked the first day of the 40th selling season. The market is open every Saturday (and Sunday) through Christmas Eve and offers hundreds of local vendors that feature handmade items from jewelry to dog treats.
Last weekend kicked off with an opening celebration that included giveaways, music, kids activities, food trucks and a whole lot more. Now that the initial craze is over, come down to the market and not only find one-of-a-kind goodies for yourself and family/friends, but also enjoy this whole list of awesomeness including:
- Main Stage entertainment, featuring local entertainers, like Johnny Martin
- Kids activities
- Street performers
- Food carts for every palette
- Over 200 amazing artisans
Youre sure to work up an appetite with all the excitement going on. If you are looking for something more traditional, so you can sit down and give your feet a rest, make a reservation at Mothers Bistro for brunch or lunch. Located on 2nd and Stark, its close enough to walk to and just far enough from the crowds (though there is always a crowd waiting for a table here) to make for a relaxing retreat from the market. If you ask anyone downtown for a good recommendation, Mothers is surely on their list of must-eats.
You can also cap off your trip to the market with a dessert to end all desserts: a doughnut at Voodoo. "The essential to budget travel is to approach in advance. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the reality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our heads. Organizing and expending our travel budget properly is a concern for most families. Curbing consuming and fees, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured achievements and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding protecting money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal funds is highly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel costs!..". Another Portland landmark, you cant go leave unless youve had one, lest you be shunned by your family and friends back home.
