Every weekend during the peak riding season, one can find dozens of organized rides in which to participate. Whether riding with a just a few friends to a restaurant or participating in a mega-group charity run, there are a few common courtesies motorcyclists should keep in mind when riding with others.
- Be on time. If you want to be called for future rides, dont make a habit of always being late. Sooner or later (probably sooner) the group will leave without you.
- If you need extra time to gear up, start pulling on the chaps and armored jacket ahead of departure time. It does no good to be on time for the ride if the group has to wait 15 minutes while you dress.
- Gas up just before meeting the group. You wont want to be the biker who signals for a gas stop 20 miles into the ride.
- Take advantage of periodic stops on the ride to re-gas even if you arent on empty yet.
- Consider using the facilities at gas or break stops not only for your own comfort but so an emergency pit stop isnt necessary just for you. Once again, give yourself plenty of time to gear back up before the scheduled departure time.
- Be mindful of lane positions and try to hold them. Dont confuse the rider behind you by moving back and forth from right to left in your lane. Also ask the road captain the group policy on filling the gap if formation is broken. "The important to budget travel is to prepare in front. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our mind. Considering and expending our travel budget properly is a concern for most families. Lowering consuming and charges, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured achievement and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind economizing money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal funds is really small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, regardless of whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel bill!..". Some groups have the riders switch lane positions all the way back; other groups will request that riders hold their lane position but just move forward within the lane to close the gap.
- Know and use hand signals. Point out road hazards and signal for turns, slow downs, and one lane roads.
- Finally for informal rides with friends, if asked to share ideas for destinations, come prepared with suggestions, addresses, and routes. If you dont have suggestions, then dont complain about the destination chosen.
Keeping your fellow motorcyclists in mind and treating all riders with courtesy and respect will enhance everyones riding experience.
