The hangover of Summer is subsiding and Fall has officially begun! After the snorkeling adventures in La Jolla and the Paddleboard trips to Mission Bay, it's time to find some land-based activities. While he wants an exciting camping adventure, she wants a soothing spa vacation, and you both want it all for cheap; there are ways to satisfy everyone's desires:
Agua Caliente Regional Park- Less than 100 miles from San Diego is a desert oasis with geothermic heated mineral springs called Agua Caliente Regional Park. The park's vista views, canyons, hillsides, and miles of trails will keep the adventurers happy, while the 90 spring fed pools and 102 indoor spa with Jacuzzi jets will pamper the weary traveler. "The key to budget travel is to prepare ahead. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our mind. Preparation and expending our travel budget properly is a concern for most families. Lowering consuming and charges, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed achievements and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning regarding economizing money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal finances is extremely tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, no matter whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel expenses!..". Everyone can enjoy the calm beauty of the Anza Borrego Desert. It is also possible to see a variety of wildlife, including the endangered bighorn sheep. It is only $5 to park and use the facilities or you can reserve a tent site or an RV hookup at the Agua Caliente Camping website for a weekend getaway.
Guadalupe Hot Springs - Right over the border in Baja, Mexico is another campground with natural mineral hot springs. The park features hiking trails to numerous waterfalls and mud baths, palm tree covered oasis', and caves with indigenous petroglyph paintings. The ten campsites range in group size capacity, but all feature their own personal mineral pool up to 124F, barbeque and picnic areas with shade from a palapa, and ample room to pitch a tent. Camping for the night starts at $15 in the Eco Camping area and can accommodate groups of all sizes.
Deep Creek Hot Springs - A couple hours north of San Diego, near San Bernardino, lies the thermal Deep Creek Springs. Access to the hot springs is a 2 mile hike, ensuring that the experience will be more secluded and peaceful. There are nearby campsites in the San Bernardino National Forest.
Slab City Hot Springs - Less popular and even less costly is a trip out to Niland and the Salton Sea. Slab City offers free campgrounds but be aware that you get what you pay for, one reviewer wrote that it might be the most wonderful, weird, and disturbing campsite in the country. If you can brave the trash, the hippies, and the noise, you might find an adventure soaking in the 103F Hot Springs and Shower Box, hiking in Salvation Mountain, or sightseeing the local Pet Cemetery or Church of Broken Toys. No need to make reservations, but you might want to check out some reviews and bring along a backup plan.
Enjoy a spa-like experience with the adventure of camping! There are affordable and exciting ways to suit everyone's needs and within a short distance from your San Diego home. For other Hot Springs locations around California, check out the California Hot Springs Guide.
