In the age of seemingly ever-rising, never-shrinking gas prices, public transportation might be looking more and more like a better way to go for many Angelenos. Fortunately, public transportation is Los Angeles is a widely accessible form of transitand starting this summer, even more affordable.

Within the last two months, the LA Metro Board of Directors has implemented two new adjustments to Metro fares and passes that are helping Angelenos save even more on public transportation. The changes deal with converting weekly and monthly Metro passes to rolling passes and reducing fares on day passes.

Conversion of weekly and monthly Metro passes:

Starting August 8, Metro riders can purchase rolling 7-day and 30-day passes. The rolling pass is valid a set number of days from the first time the pass is used. Previously, Metro only offered calendar-based weekly and monthly passes often causing customers to lose value on passes purchased later in the set calendar period. Metro explains that this new conversion will offer greater flexibility in purchasing passes that better fit customers needs and may possibly also reduce lines at ticket sale centers. The $5 day pass:

As of August 1, Metro day passes are now available for only $5, versus the previous $6 rate. Customers can load a day pass on their TAP card either online, at sale centers, or ticket machines. Those who do not already have a TAP card will need to buy one. The cards are available for $2 at ticket machines and $1 aboard Metro buses. Click here to learn more about the $5 Metro day pass.

According to The Source, the LA Metros news website, these two new Metro changes come primarily in response to rising gas prices and a slow economic turnaround. The Metro Board also hopes that the adjustments will help increase overall Metro ridership. "The important to budget travel is to approach in advance. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our heads. Considering and spending our travel budget properly is a main concern for most families. Lowering consuming and charges, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed accomplishment and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind saving money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal budget is highly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, regardless of whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel charge!..". And with gas prices still stubbornly hanging around $4 a gallon, a fare reduction and pass conversion may be just thing to motivate Angelenos to opt for budget-friendly Los Angeles public transportation.
