PortCompass offers discounted shore excursions and transfers for cruise ports in Europe, the Americas, and the Pacific. While cruises often provide great value for your days at sea, many of the tours and transfers offered by the cruise lines are overpriced.
The itineraries offered by PortCompass are designed specifically with the cruise passenger in mind. As they are aware of your cruise's itinerary, they can ensure that you are met at the port, taken through your tour experience, and then dropped off at the port in sufficient time.
For example, if you've booked Oceania's Majestic Alaska cruise departing from San Francisco on May 12, 2011 under their current 2 for 1 cruise fare promotion, you can book a Juneau City and Mendenhall Glacier two hour tour with Port Compass for $44 per person. The tour departs and returns to the dock area.
Watch for the tours with their discount highlighted in red but always check outside pricing with other tour companies. For those docking in San Juan, Puerto Rico, PortCompass offers an El Yunque Rainforest tour for $53 per person. While Viator lists the tour for the same price, their tour does not include pick up and drop off at the port but only from San Juan hotels. Passengers on Royal Caribbean's Eastern Caribbean Cruise, which docks in San Juan for a couple of hours, are much better off booking the tour with PortCompass who will take care of them right after they get off the ship.
PortCompass can also help with pre and post cruise excursions, such as picking you up at your Santiago, Chile hotel or the airport and taking you to the ship at Valparaiso with a full tour along the way.
Some of the tours have minimum passenger requirements. If you are a group of two and the minimum passenger requirement is four, you simply start an inquiry and go through their Grow-A-Group feature. Once you start a tour inquiry, everything is managed through their web interface which you access with your email address. As a stickler for details and notes, I find their web interface fantastic. You log in and are able to see everything happening with your request, including payment information, requirements, and progress. All communications with the company representative assigned to your tour is done through the web interface so you can easily ask as many questions as you'd like and the representative's answers will be saved in there for your reference. I've always received a response from the representative within hours of my inquiry.
While some budget travelers may be hesitant to spend money on tours, PortCompass' expertise and value is worth checking out to add a great experience on that special cruise holiday.
