Washington DC, home of the free

Washington DC is a great place to visit on a budget. Many of the attractions there offer free admission, so it is just a matter of finding a hotel.

Best Western Rosslyn/Iwo Jima in Alexandria Virginia is located just minutes from many of DCs attractions. The hotel is walking distance to the subway and free parking is included in the stay. A five night visit for a room with two queen beds is under $600.00. The hotel does have dining on site and there are other restaurant choices as close as a block away.

To tour The White House, guests must plan ahead through their Congress person. Arrangements for the visit can be made as far ahead as six months, but a fifteen day advance notice is needed. There is detailed information as to times, procedures and security on the web site.

The US Capital Building is another free place to visit, but there is a ticket requirement for entry. Information on obtaining tickets, visitors information, tour times and security are listed on The US Capital web site. Checking with these policies in advance will ensure a problem free trip.

The Smithsonian Institution is the worlds largest museum and research complex in the world and includes 19 museums and the National Zoological Park. Entries to all of these attractions are free and are open every day except for December 25th. All the information regarding visits can be found on the web site.
