Summer has officially begun and there is no better way to enjoy the summer heat than to celebrate the 4th of July holiday with family and friends. Some of us will travel far for the long weekend, while others stay close to home, either way there is something for you to do. Here are a couple of affordable activities that you will want to consider for this holiday weekend.

2011 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival (July 1st 4th) The 2nd largest blues festival in the nation takes place in Portland, OR at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park (on the Willamette River) and features 120 performances on 4 stages and 100% of the gate donations go to the Oregon Food Bank. In addition to musical performances, the festival also features workshops, dances, blues cruises, and of course fireworks.

St. PaulRodeo (June 30th July 4th) This iconic event celebrates its 76thyear in St. Paul, OR and features 5 days of activities and fun for the whole family. This years activities include a carnival, autographs and photographs with the Royal Court, and fireworks nightly. "The key to budget travel is to approach onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our thoughts. Organizing and spending our travel budget wisely is a priority for most families. Lowering consuming and expenses, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain achievement and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding saving money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, no matter whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel charge!..".

Philomath Classic Car Show (July 2nd) If you are looking for a fun (and free) way to spend your Saturday, visit this annual event from 9am to 3pm at the Philomath City Park. In addition to viewing classic cars dated from 1900 to 1980, this event features food, music, vendor booths, and a raffle (with prizes donated from area businesses).

These are just a few of the many local events taking place this weekend, so why not leave a comment letting everyone know how you plan on spending your 4th of July weekend!
