The word police are out in full force at the "two thousand and twelve London games." As many as 300 enforcement officers are tasked with monitoring and reporting violations of Olympic branding used in "supporting the London games." Apparently there is even a list of words banned for use by anyone not officially approved as a sponsor for the summer games.
So hold on to your tea cup, public gestures of team spirit and hospitality could be punishable by law. Its a criminal offense to capitalize commercially from the 2012 games without being an official sponsor. Fines could be as high as 20,000.
According to regulations by the London 2012 Organizing Committee (LOCOG) under a 2006 law to protect Olympic branding, there is a list of banned words categorized by List A and List B. The ruling prevents the use of two List A words and any word from List A and List B co-mingled the same sentence without LOCOG authorization.

- Olympic Olympian Olympiad Paralympic Paralympian Paralympiad, and their plurals, translations and anything similar to them.

The United Kingdom has long held a tradition of proudly displaying memorabilia, flags and quintessential-British items like tea towels, cups and trinkets to celebrate historical events and patriotic pride, like royal weddings. Now that the Olympic games are in town, many shopkeepers and merchants, including Kate Middleton's mother, are supporting the London games, but they may be in trouble for using LOCOG banned phrases, words, as well as implied symbols.
A small English baker found this out the hard way. David Adams, manager of the House Caf, hung Olympic rings made from bagels in his shop window in Camberwell, England. All he was trying to do was back the 2012 games, but within less than half an hour of hanging the baked dough rings from his shop window, Southwark Borough Council community wardens ordered him to take them down. According to the Daily Mail, Avril Unwin, a cake baker was also told not to use the Olympic rings on a cake and Joy Tomkin, a doll maker, had to withdraw a doll she was selling for 1 because it was wearing a summer Olympic outfit, with Olympic rings.
Party Pieces, the company founded and owned by Carole Middleton, mother of Kate Middleton (the Dutchess of Cambridge), sells party and celebratory items like paper chains in the London Olympic sponsor colors of red, yellow, green, blue and black and a similarly colored ring toss. The site has an home page banner that reads, Let the Games Begin, with scroll over banner that reads, Celebrate the Games in London. Prince Williams mother-in-law may be in trouble for using a List A word with those from List B. "The key to budget travel is to approach in front. Kate Middletons sister Pippa, writes a blog on Party Pieces. Apparently she could be in Olympic-sized trouble if she uses banned words on the Party Pieces website in support of the 2012 London games.
What is next? Will the LOCOG try to claim ownership of the fire from the twenty-twelve London Olympic torch that backs the summer 2012 games and the Olympians and Paralympians that compete to win gold, silver and bronze medals?
