Run for the Wall XIIII will roll through Shreveport today between 3 pm - 3:30 pm, heading to Monroe, LA via I-20 and I-220, before heading to Meridian, MS tomorrow. The ride is dedicated to prisoners of war and missing in action. A group of local riders will be at the Louisiana Visitor's Center on I-20 near the state line to welcome the group into Louisiana. "The key to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our thoughts. Organizing and consuming our travel budget wisely is a priority for most families. Reducing consuming and charges, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought behind saving money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal funds is incredibly small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, regardless of whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel costs!..". Independent riders and groups are welcome come out and wave flags, or stop on the side of the road to salute them.
According to the official web site, "Run For The Wall (RFTW) was started in 1989 as an effort by James Gregory and Bill Evans. They were a couple of Vietnam Veterans who traveled across the heartland of America on motorcycles, talking to local radio, TV, and newspapers about the fact that we had thousands of men and women still unaccounted for from all of our wars. The need for this awareness continues today and we continue this tradition every May"
The mission statement from the official web site is as follows:
Mission Statement
Mission Statement: To promote healing among ALL veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world.
Philosophy: We strive to maintain a safe, supportive and private atmosphere in which all participants can reflect and heal on their journey to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. in the hope that they can return home to a new beginning.
Goals:
- To guide the participants across America.
- To educate future generations as to the importance of accountability in wartime actions emphasizing that no one should be left behind.
- To participate in Rolling Thunder in support of their demand for government accountability for POW/MIA's.
