Let's talk about packing. "The key to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our minds. Considering and expending our travel budget wisely is a concern for most families. Reducing expending and charges, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured accomplishment and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding protecting money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal finances is highly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!..". First, do you have airline-approved luggage? Keep in mind, most airlines charge between $20-35 for each checked bag, EACH WAY. If your bag exceeds the weight limit, additional charges also apply. If you are going on a short trip, or really do not have a lot of things to pack, try seeing if all your items can fit in your carry on. If so, you can save yourself an extra $40 or so. Need a new carry on suitcase? I've always found great deals on carry ons at TJ Maxx and Ross stores. I paid an average of $20 at either store for an airline-approved carry on suitcase. There are numerous TJ Maxx, Ross, and Marshall's locations all over Dallas, so you shouldn't have a problem finding one nearby.
Think about what you're packing. Can the same pair of shoes go with various outfits? Can you bring one pair of pants and wear a few different shirts with them? Remember, the less you pack, the less you have to deal with. And most travelers buy souvenirs while they are away, so save room for these items as well.
My personal tip is to pack a few snacks in your carry on. Not only will you have a quick snack if you're hungry, but also it can also save you money in the airport. Airport snacks are highly inflated, so stopping by a local Wal Mart or grocery store ahead of time can also keep money in your pocket.
Need a new book or magazine for the airport/plane? Plan ahead and either order a new book off of Amazon.com or visit a local Half Price Books location for deeply discounted items. In Dallas, you can find a Half Price Books store at 5803 E. Northwest Hwy, 75231 or at 13388 Preston Road, 75240. They sell recent magazines for an average of $2.48 and you literally pay half price on your favorite books. Another perk is that when you finish reading your new book or magazine, you can take the item back to the store and they will buy it back from you.
