As the riding season approaches, now is the time to start to gather all those resources for planning that next trip or adventure. Last year we did an article on a new venture, Motorcycle Maps, created especially for the motorcycle traveler.
The concept was the brainchild of Dennis Munden, a 22-year Army veteran, who came up with this idea after a trip of 9,200 miles in 46 days in the summer of 2009. In this modern age of techno everything, Dennis knew that there are times when you want to just pull out a paper map, gather the group around, and decide on the next ride.
In 2010, the maps available included Florida, Alabama, and North Carolina. "The important to budget travel is to plan onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our thoughts. Preparation and consuming our travel budget properly is a consideration for most families. Minimizing consuming and fees, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain accomplishment and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning regarding economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal finances is extremely tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, no matter whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!..". A check of their website today shows that the people at Motorcycle Maps have been busy riding and finding new roads and Mom and Pop places to visit. Georgia has been added to the line-up with a three-part Texas map to be available in March. By April, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia will be available.
Other travel essentials are also listed on the websites store including a Biker Journal (I used and loved this item on my last summers vacation for tracking info from expenses to gas mileage to phone numbers), kick-stand plate (really heavy duty), and 9-in-1 battery operated safety flare.
As for the state maps, they are printed on high quality paper (think about the other paper maps you have that tear from folding and unfolding countless times these dont). Riding routes have been highlighted and are classified by scenic, intermediate, and experienced rides; Mom and Pop businesses are indexed; and a directory of information regarding state helmet laws, fishing licenses, gun carry permits (one of the things I have to look up when traveling), and radar usage along with current bike events across the country.
One final piece of great news for those riders in the southeast United States, welcome centers in North Carolina and Georgia are now carrying their respective Motorcycle Maps and the Texas maps will be in Texas welcome centers when they become available.
