One of my most favorite and most anticipated motorcycle events is the annual Run with the Nuns (RWTN) event to raise money that benefits local health programs for children including Sutton Children's Medical Center, CARA Center, and the CHRISTUS Schumpert School-Based health Centers. Run with the Nuns V is scheduled for Saturday, October 22 iat it's new location in downtown Shreveport.
But tomorrow, the event coordinators will be holding a fund raiser. The Posado's Run with the Nuns Kickoff Night is Thursday, May 26, 5-9 pm @ the restaurant at 1355 East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. 15% of the revenue earned during the night will be donated to RWTN's children's programs .During the evening, we will make a number of check presentations to children's services for new equipment and programs. According to event coordinator, Liz Swaine, "this is a great opportunity for all of our supporters and biker friends to see where their registration dollars, donations, entry fees to the bike show and tattoo contest, purchase of live auction items and other money, goes. We are going to be announcing funding for a number of different programs to help purchase some much-needed equipment. We will also be announcing the recipient of our 2011 RWTN V Humanitarian Award, and bikers will be able to register for the 2011 event. Registration for 2011 is $30 for each person on the bike. You must PREREGISTER by Sept 30 to get a FREE RWTN t-shirt. Day of event registrants will not receive a free t-shirt.
About the event...
RWTN V will be an all-new event in an all-new location! Our home for 2011 will be in historic downtown Shreveport, La. The 600-700 blocks of our main historic promenade, Texas Street, will welcome hundreds of motorcyclists and lovers of all things motorbike on Saturday, October 22. The RWTN favorites will all be back, but we have shaken up the schedule and added some new things to the mix. On Friday night, Oct. 21, we plan to shut down the 600/700 blocks of Texas and set up the giant outdoor movie screen for a FREE viewing of WILD HOGS and possibly some other biker-favorites! This event will be free to RWTN registrants and those who are pre-registered can pick up their packets on Friday night. On Saturday, festivities will begin at 8 a.m. on site with the popular IHOP Breakfast, vendors, the Biker Blessing, RWTN Humanitarian Award, live music by Earshot Graffiti and the Earshot Hornz, and much, much, more.
NEW AND SPECIAL this year will be the Art of the Motorcycle Exhibit at Artspace, 710 Texas Street. The exhibit, complete with more than 40 custom and unique motorcycles, motorcycle art and information, will be FREE to all RWTN registrants. Art of the Motorcycle will be open all day Saturday for viewing. ALL RWTN registrants will also be able to purchase reduced-price tickets to the popular BREW beer tasting that begins at 3 p.m. "The important to budget travel is to prepare in front. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the reality of expense and budgeting is always in the back of our mind. Considering and consuming our travel budget correctly is a consideration for most families. Curbing spending and costs, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed success and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding saving money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal budget is really limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!..". (right after the RWTN) at downtown's Festival Plaza. More to come about this very soon!"
The RWTN website is up and allows people to register on line. Participants and sponsors can also call 318-681-6100 for more information.
