The long, much anticipated, three day weekend that is the unofficial start of the summer riding season, is finally upon us. The weather forecast promises sunny skies and mild to hot temperatures for riders this weekend, and there's no shortage of places to go, things to see, or events to attend. From one rider to another, my advice is to wear your long sleeves or sunscreen to avoid overexposure to harmful rays, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and remain aware of your surroundings to stay safe on the roads that have increased traffic due to the holiday. With that said, get out there and ride and have fun!
Our Place Bar and Grill Annual Memorial Day Party - Monday, May 28, Elm Grove, Louisiana - The party begins at 1 pm with music by local favorite, the Nomads. There will be free Bar-B-Q by Ron Hudson. Party in the Pines East Texas Memorial Day Motorcycle Rally, May 25-27, Longview, Texas - This rally started yesterday and will continue through Sunday. It will feature the Glory Bound Drill Team today at noon, a bike show, games, guided rides, a Joker run and music by Dazed at 8 pm and Back in Black at 10 pm. Tomorrow, enjoy more fun with vendors, a CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) Service at 10 am, a military tribute ceremony at 1:45 pm, and a Patriotic Bike Parade that departs at 2 pm. Mudbug Madness, May 24-27, Shreveport, Louisiana - Don't want to leave your home town this weekend? Then you're in for a treat. The annual Mudbug Madness festival is taking place at Festival Plaza, 101 Crockett Street in Shreveport. It is north Louisiana's tribute to our Cajun heritage and the beloved crawfish. Music from Cajun and Zydeco masters and delicious smells of Cajun cuisine fill the air. Famous art vendors and crafters sell one of a kind Louisiana treasures. The Swamp stage will feature an array of local and regional musical talent playing everything from rock to blues. The crawfish eating contest is today at 1 pm. Past eaters have eaten 45 pounds in 30 minutes. Admission is $5.00.
Northwest Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery Memorial Service at Keithville, Monday, May 28- The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery was the first state veterans cemetery developed in Louisiana. The cemetery provides interment for veterans and their dependents in a dignified and compassionate manner, commemorating their service to our nation. It also serves as a cemetery for active duty soldiers and their dependents. Located at 7970 Mike Clark Road in Keithville, the staff will hold their annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at noon, with guest speaker, Charles "Hondo" Campbell, a retired four-star general who upon his retirement was the last serving full rank general officer with Vietnam War combat experience. The Bossier City Harley Owner's Group has a ride planned to this event for the laying of the wreath and ceremonies. They will meet at the Bossier City Harley-Davidson dealership at 10 am for a kick stands up ride at 10:30.
Rides, events and picnics are abundant this weekend. Ride safe and have fun, but remember our veterans and those currently serving are the reason for this holiday.
