Southwest Airlines has some major changes that started today - the first post Memoral Day airfares went on sale. With summer vacations not far away, many familes, travelers, and beach goers look forward to Memorial Day travel, weekend getaways, and family vacations. Southwest Airlines obliges with cheap flights to whet summer budget travel appetites.
Starting Tuesday, Southwest is offering cheap flights all over the country in the 7 Days of Deals. Find airfares for as low as $39 each way for some destinations. Most of the low price airfares range from $49 to $150 each way but there are not shortage of $39 and $49 airfares to places like Baltimore, Las Vegas, Dallas, Phoenix, Nashville, Houston, San Diego, and more. Find other affordable flights for $69 or $79.
From Sacramento, get $69 flights each way to Burbank, Los Angeles, Ontario, Orange County, Portland, and San Diego. "The essential to budget travel is to approach ahead. - Purchase by March 7, 11:59 PM PST
- 21 day advanced purchase required
- Travel valid through June 8
- Valid travel days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for these airfares
- Based on airfare guidelines, no blackouts apply for Memorial Day travel
Southwest Airlines changes to Rapid Rewards program begin today
A couple of months ago, Southwest introduced the changes coming to the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards program. With the first airfares after the Memorial Day holiday, you can see the effect of these changes on the 7 Days of Deals. Now if you search for airfares on Southwest, you can get the amount of the airfare in dollars and points.
With Southwest Airlines' new point system in place for Rapid Rewards flights, you now have the option of seeing the price of flights in dollars or in points. For the various types of flights offered, you get a number of points for that flight. To redeem points for flights, a minimum amount of points is required based on the destination selected and the type of airfare selected.
Each airfare is assigned a points per dollar and based on the amount of the airfare in dollars, multiply that by the points per dollar and that's how much you will pay in points for a flight! Airlines and prices continue to change
How do airline ticket prices look for the summer? There's a good chance they may be higher this year as airlines are constantly looking to raise their airfares. However, many airlines were forced to roll back a recent airfare increase due to the stance of the budget airlines like Southwest refusing to do the same.
