Stargazers in Hawaii have another opportunity to view meteors next week when the Leonid meteor shower peaks on November 17.

Leonid is the result of debris from Comet Tempel-Tuttle. Every 33 years the comets path takes it to our solar system leaving a stream of debris in its wake. Many of these streams have drifted across the November portion of Earth's orbit causing the meteors which eminate from the constellation Leo.

The Leonid is famous because the shower can be, and has been, among the most spectacular. In 1833, it was reported that one hundred thousand meteors per hour were visible east of the Rocky Mountains. Meteor activity of such magnitude is referred to as a meteor storm.

According to NASA, the Leonids should produce about 20 30 meteors per hour over North America and as many as 200 300 over Asia. Since Hawaii is nearly midway between both continents, Im hoping we will enjoy as much as 100 per hour. The key to budget travel is to plan in advance. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Preparation and consuming our travel budget properly is a main concern for most families. Reducing consuming and fees, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured success and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought behind economizing money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal finances is highly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel charge!. The moon phase will be new so viewing could be the best in years. Photo from NASA

The first stream crossing on Nov. 17th comes around 0900 UT (4 a.m. EST, 1 a.m. PST and 11 p.m. HST on Nov 16 if I'm not mistaken).

The next stream crossing takes place around 2100-2200 UT (6 p.m. EST, 11 a.m. HST - which will be a problem for viewing as it will be during the day).
