How would you like to spend the weekend with some Hollywood people and all for free? Sounds great, right? Well, you can this weekend! (April 25, 2009)
As with every year, the Newport Beach Film Festival is again having a day of free panels and seminars where anyone can come for free and see some of the people behind some of their favorite Hollywood films! Besides being just a great weekend activity, it is also an amazing place to learn a little something about those films we all so love.
This year there are four different seminars set up which they are titling Vision and Craft: The Art of Filmmaking. The first is Film Music Composition, then Screenwriting, Directing, and finally Animation.
At 9:00am-11:00am the Film Music Composition seminar starts things off. Composers from possibly your favorite motion pictures will reveal how they create those memorable tunes we all love. They will further go into how music sets the mood of the story and how it helps to create it.
From 11:00am-1:00pm the Screenwriting seminar then takes things over. Scriptwriters will discuss how they construct solid ideas to then pass on to the readers. From the readers, the scriptwriters will discuss how to see that script on the big screen.
From 1:00pm-3:00pm the directing seminar takes things away. These directors will discuss the anatomy of a film and then go on to tell how they choose the right script for themselves. They will go into the art of casting and how to bring everything together to create their vision on screen. These directors will also discuss what it is like to work within the studio system as well as without.
From 3:00pm-5:00pm you will find the final seminar fro Animation. This will consist of animators as well as voice-over actors discussing concept creations, storyboarding, and character and story development. They will also go into the contemporary animation techniques as well as the classic ones.
The speakers for these seminars have not yet been announced but in the past have been some very good people to hear their amazing stories from. Dont expect to see someone like Steven Spielberg here as it is a film festival. Most of the speakers tend to be more in the independent scene. The director of the Adrian Brody film, Dummy, was once a speaker. Rodney Charters who works on 24 was a speaker once before too. For a weekend spent with free learning from some Hollywood players I highly recommend checking out the Newport Beach Film Festival Seminars. Seating is on first come first serve basis, and all seminars will take place at Edwards Island 7.
