This Weekend April 28: Eat Mobile is on at OMSI

So, you like food trucks and you like small plates? If you answered yes to both, then Eat Mobileis for you. For a mere $18, you can sample offerings from 50 of the best food trucks in Portlandthis Saturday at the 5th annual Eat Mobile Food Cart Festival presented by Willamette Week and OMSI. From ice cream to bahn mi sandwiches, your tongue will never get bored. The food trucks participating are also vying for the coveted food truck prize, the Carty Award. Won by Whiffie Pies the last two years, they appear to be out of the running this year and that means there is a chance for an old or brand new cart to take it home.

So, what can you expect at Eat Mobile? Probably long lines and a lot of yummy noises. While you think there may be more carts on-site than plates you can reasonably eat, here are some reasons you will want to brave the crowds to stuff your face:

You will just be sampling foods (though some carts will have full-size food plates for sale).
You will be walking around eating, getting some exercise and we all know that fresh air makes us hungry.
You are never going to be able to sample so many food trucks in one place at the same time again without driving all over town, except at next years Eat Mobile event.
Its way cheaper than dinner out for the same amount of food.

Eat at your favorite carts, try new ones or hit up the ones you keep saying youll go to and never make it. Food carts are fast making themselves some of the best food you can get in a city. In fact, Portlands food cart scene is so diverse and delicious, it was named the number one place to dine worldwide for street food. Thats pretty amazing considering all the other cities out there known for their food trucks, right?

While youre taking a break from eating (or not), you can watch live food demonstrations and learn a thing or two about how food works. You know, the making it part. You can also leave feeling good about yourself, because OMSI and Willamette Week will have solar generates and compost facilities right there for you. So, even if you leave stuffed to the point you say you will never eat again, you did your part for the Earth in the process.

Beverages are not included in your $18 admission fee and credit cards are not going to be taken at the event, so make sure you bring some cash in your pocket or be prepared to use the ATM on-site (though you'll have to pay a fee). All proceeds from those concessions benefit Mercy Corps Northwest, so even that money is helping out othersand your thirst.
