British Airways gives skis a free "lift" this winter (Photos)

Wow. This is great news for all your Los Angeles ski buffs planning to try the slopes of Chambery, Geneva or Zurich this winter. British Airways (http://www.ba.com will take your skis for free to any of those resorts if you book your ticket by October 31, 2011.

A quick look at flights on BA's web site today found flights for as low as $360 one-way from Los Angeles International Airport to Geneva and $373 back from Switzerland between November 29 and December 5. There's a whole lot of other good rates if you hurry up and look.

Passengers who book flights to Chambery, Geneva or Zurich before October 31 can take n extra piece of hold luggage on flights between December and March.

This is in addition to the existing free one bag allowance and can be used for skis or other winter sports equipment. British Airways currently operates seven flights a week from London City to Geneva and 22 flights a week to Zurich. From December 17 the four times a week winter only services to Chambery will begin.

All inclusive one-way fares to all three destinations are available to book on ba.com. All fares include free on-line check in and seat selection up to 24 hours before departure, no debit card charges and complimentary food and drinks on board the aircraft.

The BA website also lists lots of ski holiday packages that come with air, hotel and even cars. "The key to budget travel is to plan in advance. Car hire is also available to book together with flights and it is guaranteed to save you money than if booking separately.

So if you're heading across the pond for some serious skiing this winter, this represents quite the deal. Of course you can also stay home and ski at any of the snow-drench mountain resorts of in California from Mammoth to Big Bear and beyond.
