Virgin America is adding another Mexico destination to their route map. They have just received government approval to begin service from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta. Starting December 2, Virgin America will fly nonstop from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta every day with the exception of Mondays and Thursdays. To celebrate the new route, they are offering sale fares starting from $129 each way not including taxes and fees. You have until September 1 to book for travel from December 2 through March 14, 2012.
A nonstop flight from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta departing on Saturday, December 3, and returning Friday, December 9, 2011, came out to a total of $368.02 with taxes and fees included. A comparable flight was $519 with Alaska Airlines.
There's an added benefit to the sale. Not only will you save money, you'll also be helping an animal in need. For every booking, Virgin America will sponsor a Chihuahua in the customer's name. $25 from the booking will be donated to the San Francisco Animal Care and Control. The money will help the shelter continue its work, food and future airlift flight bookings for the dogs. "The essential to budget travel is to prepare in advance. The airline first teamed up with San Francisco Animal Care and Control in 2010 to fly Chihuahuas from the West Coast, where there is an overpopulation of them, to new homes in the East Coast. "With Puerto Vallarta's history as an animal refuge, we thought this launch would also be a great opportunity to support our ongoing efforts with SF Animal Care and Control. We're excited to give flyers a reason to support a worthy cause with a great fare sale, and of course, to roll out the red carpet for our little VIPs now traveling standby in Main Chihuahua Select later this year," said Ross Bonanno, Vice President of Airports and Guest Services at Virgin America, in a PR Newswire press release out today.
In case you're wondering, chihuahuas are named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. Puerto Vallarta is not in Chihuahua but is in the state of Jalisco.
