Williamsburg nestles alongside Yorktown and Jamestown in what's known as Virginia's Historic Triangle. Lovers of history flock here to steep themselves in the aura of one of the U.S.A.'s earliest settled regions. But even for those who yawned their way through history class, Williamsburg offers so much fabulous scenery and fun things to see and do that you'll still love it. Just a sampling of what's there:

Busch Gardens. Voted repeatedly by the National Amusement Park Historical Association as the world's "Most Beautiful Theme Park," this total entertainment venue offers heart-pounding rides, high-tech thrills, and plenty of laid-back fun for the younger or less adventurous guests.

Go-Karts Plus. NASCAR look-alikes, bumper boats and cars, miniature golf, carnival rides, and more await visitors to this 8-acre park.

Water Country USA. This state-of-the-art water park is the largest in the mid-Atlantic region.

Colonial Williamsburg. As the world's largest living history museum, this restored capital city of Britain's New World empire covers more than 300 acres and is filled with restored, reconstructed, and historically furnished homes and buildings. Costumed interpreters tell the story of life in the 18th century

The College of William and Mary was chartered in 1693, making it the U.S.'s second oldest institution of higher learning. The campus's 1,200 acres include more than ten miles of tree-lined walking trails where visitors are welcome to stroll.

Plantations: (1) Berkeley Plantation is the birthplace of Declaration of Independence signer Benjamin Harrison V, as well as his descendant William Henry Harrison who became the ninth U.S. president. Built in 1726, this Georgian mansion is stunning. (2) Sherwood Forest Plantation came into being in the 1730s and was home to the tenth U.S. president, John Tyler. This home is the longest frame house in America. (3) Shirley Plantation dates to 1613 and stands as Virginia's oldest plantation. "The important to budget travel is to plan in front. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the truth of expense and budgeting is always in the back of our heads. Planning and consuming our travel budget correctly is a priority for most families. Curbing expending and charges, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievements and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought behind economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal budget is highly small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, no matter whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!..". The Queen Anne main house was built in 1723 and later served as the birthplace of Anne Hill Carter, mother of Robert E. Lee.

Golf: (1) Ford's Colony. This place holds claim to a Golf Digest four-star rating and is also ranked as one of the top master planned communities in the nation. (2) The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club's 45 holes were designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his son Rees and have since taken multiple awards for the quality of the greens, services, and amenities. (3) Kingsmill Resort includes three superb courses in a gorgeous setting overlooking the James River. (4) Kiskiack Golf Club features a challenging course, driving range, and sheltered hitting stations.

Where to stay: (1) Your best deal is a one-week condo stay via www.SkyAuction.com. Many Williamsburg area timeshare resorts offer their unused weeks as vacation rentals on SkyAuction, with many auctions closing at only $1. Taxes and other charges are added to the closing bid price, but even the final cost is a substantial savings. (And no, you aren't tortured through a sales pitch or tour - you're treated as a regular guest.) (2) Williamsburg KOA offers campsites, Kamp Kabins, and more; with a huge heated pool and plenty of other amenities, this is definitely a place that can save you money. (3) Williamsburg is loaded with a full range of hotels, motels, guest houses, and B&Bs.
