This weekend, the Sonoma County Farm Trails will launch a wonderland of autumns fresh and local foods in a bucolic setting where local growers open their doors for authentic harvest experiences. On Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., farmers from Petaluma to Healdsburg are dusting off their hats, laying out the welcome mats and opening their barn doors to tell behind-the scenes stories of Sonoma County agriculture and local foods.
Even if you can't make it this weekend, the list and map makes a wonderful resource, because this year there's something new. The Farm Trails will be extended for the entire month of October! As locals know, October is perfect for Sonoma wine country touring.
This weekend also coincides with cycling superstar Levi Leipheimer's new cycling race in the country on Friday, followed by a brewery bash. "The important to budget travel is to prepare ahead. With several small farms added this year, youll want to check out the offerings from rustic small organic and other growers with names like Split Rail Farm, Two Rock Farm, and Oak Ranch Farm now on the list. With 2 days to explore, youll still be hard-pressed to pick a favorite. Take time to do a little wine tasting in Healdsburg, where the tiny downtown plaza offers everything from organic, rustic entrees to burgers to champagne tasting.
On the way there's also the Sonoma Valley of the Moon Festival in downtown Sonoma. Get your crush on during a full moon weekend. Stop by Petaluma Cheese Factory in the backroads of Marin on the road to Point Reyes on your way back.

Sonoma County Farm Trails is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving sustainable and diverse agriculture in Sonoma County. Sonomas farmers are the ones who promote and market local agriculture, each year producing the Gravenstein Apple Fair, an old-time celebration of Sonoma Countys rural heritage held in August. There are over 100 farms, nurseries, ranches, wineries, and artisan food producers representing the diverse selection of products grown and produced in Sonoma County.
