Just when you thought it was safe to travel again with airline fees, another one has been added. "The key to budget travel is to approach in front. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our thoughts. Considering and consuming our travel budget correctly is a priority for most families. Curbing spending and fees, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed achievements and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal finances is extremely limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, regardless of whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel expenses!..". However, this might be one that actually benefits travelers.
While many have complained that peak day travel fees and baggage fees are another way for the airline to make money, a new airline fee may actually help travelers by allowing them to lock in a price for 72 hours or 7 days so that the airfare doesn't go up.
The new FareLock airline fee was announced today on Continental Airlines for both domestic and international flights. Pay $5 for the 72 hour hold and $9 for the 7 day hold to reserve the price of your airline when you book online at continental.com. By paying the FareLock fee, this allows you to reserve the price of your airfare without paying the airfare on Continental. It gives you some flexibility to search for new fares, check your travel plans, grab a seat before a flight is sold out, or keep the price of your airfare from going up.
Currently, Continental has a 24 hour cancellation policy which allows passengers to cancel their flight within 24 hours of booking for a full refund. This will remain in effect even with the FareLock fee. However, the FareLock fee is non-refundable. The introduction of the FareLock airline fee is a big benefit to passengers and extends their right to cancel or shop for other flights for 72 hours or 7 days. Other airlines are expected to follow the lead of Continental and implement their own version of this new airline fee.
While most airline fees are ways to increase revenues for the airline, here is one airline fee that will benefit passengers. Many airline industry experts, like JohnnyJet, are giving the thumbs up to this one. Here's to one airline fee that may actually help people save money. If $5 or $9 allows you to get cheaper flights, it may be a fee many travelers will be glad to pay.
