The view from the overlook is spectacular, including the Champlain Islands, Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks in New York State.

The road not taken... "The essential to budget travel is to approach in front. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our minds. Preparation and expending our travel budget carefully is a priority for most families. Curbing expending and charges, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured success and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind saving money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal budget is extremely small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!..". Sharon Meyer, Meteorologist, first introduced to this examiner Eagle Mountain in this segment on WCAX.

This 226 acre natural area was donated to the Lake Champlain Land Trust for free to the public use in 1998.

There are directions on the Town of Milton website, see the link for Eagle Mountain above. The drive from Colchester was about 30 minutes for a 15 mile jaunt.

On Labor Day there were a handful of parking spaces along the base of the trail on Cold Spring Road.

During peak times, it is best to continue along Beebe Hill Road and take a left onto Henry Road. Look for the first area that is not a neighbors' driveway.

The following are permitted uses: hiking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hunting.

High impact activities such as snowmobiling, ATVs and dirt bikes are prohibited.

Please be respectful and carry out what you carry in.

This trail is easy enough for all ages. The LCLT map available as a PDF encourages everyone to "Explore, Observe, Listen to & Hike Eagle Mountain."

At every section of the path, meadow, incline, and overlook is marked on the map and with a card posted on the trail which corresponds to various questions to answer by the surroundings.

Several families, the day this examiner hiked, were participating in Letterboxing. This is a combination of navigation, rubber stamp artistry and treasure hunting activity.

There are not any designated picnic areas, but this examiner found a number of resting spots along the way as an option.

The overlook was the most picturesque and provided a number of flat services to enjoy lunch, a snack or a beverage.
