The holidays are right around the corner and for most people; the holidays bring about thoughts of warm, cozy nights in front of the fire with a steaming cup of hot cocoa. Or perhaps, the aroma of freshly baked sugar cookies fills your mind. Maybe the holidays are about spending time indoors with your loved ones. But, sometimes, being indoors can get old and boring, so what better time to get outdoors and celebrate the holidays in Charleston, West Virginia. The amazing events lined up to celebrate in yuletide joy this season will certainly keep you busy. From concerts to parades, there are activities for everyonemost of which are free!

Charlestons Christmas Parade will be on Saturday December 4th at 10am. The parade will begin on Court Street underneath the interstate ramp. If you cant make it to Charlestons parade, there are plenty of other parades to be seen in outlying cities. Hurricanes Christmas Parade is Saturday, December 4th at 4:30pm. Come early and grab a spot by the gazebo and the town tree, for a small-town, homey Christmas feeling. South Charlestons Christmas parade is on Saturday, December 11th at noon.

On Saturday, December 11th, visit the West Virginia Culture Center for Second Saturday between 9am and 4pm. Music in the Museum: a Holiday Celebration, featuring jazz musician Phil Washington sets the tone for merriment and the warmth of the season. Also on December 11th is Tuba Christmas at the Charleston Town Center. Tuba, sousaphone, euphonium and baritone horn players from across the nation play Christmas carols, first with instruments only and then with everyone singing along.

And of course, no Christmas is complete until youve had a chance to take in the Christmas lights. Anytime between November 30th and December 30th, visit the Valley Park in Hurricane for the annual Yuletide in the Park Christmas light display. Also, during Yuletide in the Park, take advantage of other day time activities including the now famous reindog parade. So, get your dogs costume ready and take him down to parade him with all the other reindogs.Coonskin Parks Christmas light display is never to be missed. From November 26th to December 31st, Coonskins light display will be on from 5:30-10pm. Other Special events at Coonskin park include the lighting of the official Kanawha County Christmas tree at 6 pm on December 3rd at the Coonskin Family Center and a visit from Santa from 6 to 8:30 pm. On Dec. 16-19th, Train rides will be available, and children will have an opportunity to have their pictures taken with Santa at the Family Center.

The St. Albans Festival of Lights display is always a favorite as well. These lights will be ready to view between November 27 and December 23rd from 6-9pm.

For those willing to fork out a little bit of dough for some holiday entertainment, there are plenty of options there as well. B.E. Taylor will perform in Charleston on December 10th at 7:30pm at the Municipal Auditorium and Michael W. Smith will perform on December 4th at the Municipal Auditorium at 7pm. And, of course, no holiday season would be complete with The Nutcracker. The Charleston Ballet and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Clay Center on Friday, December 17th at 7:30pm and Saturday, December 18th at 2pm and 7:30pm. The Moscow Ballet will also be in Charleston on Thursday, December 2nd at 7:30pm performing The Great Russian Nutcracker at the Municipal Auditorium.

Whatever way you choose to celebrate the season, enjoy and be safe! Other activities can be found by visiting: www.wvstaycations.com
