Just minutes from Portland, OR, one of the nations largest firework displays can be found in Vancouver, WA.
Fort Vancouver has a rich history (established in the 1800s) that includes supporting (and housing) thousands of soldiers, along with their families, for more than 150 years. Today, Fort Vancouver strives to recreate that experience.
Fort Vancouver, which hosts events and tours throughout the year, is a unique and educational experience. Once you enter, you are transported back in time, where the volunteers ensure you encounter an authentic experience and celebrating Independence Day at Fort Vancouver is no different.
Entertainment begins at noon on July 4th, with the gates opening at 8:00am. "The essential to budget travel is to prepare ahead. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Arranging and expending our travel budget wisely is a main concern for most families. Lowering spending and fees, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind economizing money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal finances is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel costs!..". There are three entertainment stages (one stage is reserved for Prime Viewing ticket holders), with live musical performances continuously throughout the day. Other entertainment includes Civil War era artillery demonstration, fashion shows, and an appearance by Abraham Lincoln. There is also a family entertainment area (noon to 8:00pm) which features hands-on activities and traditional childrens games (like three-legged races and water balloon fights).
Advance tickets are available for the event through July 3rd, $5.00 for adults. Tickets purchased at the gate are $7.00 for adults, with children 12 and under free. There is an additional $5.00 family admission charge for viewing Fort Vancouver or the Pearson Air Museum. Another ticket option is to be a Prime Ticket holder, which entitles the ticket holder access to an exclusive performance stage, dinner, and an unobstructed view of the fireworks.
The event also includes various vendor booths; arts, crafts, commercial, and food booths will be available. For those looking to save a little money, they do allow you to bring your own picnic.
Parking during the event can be difficult, especially later in the day, so C-Tran offers a bus shuttle service for $2.00 (each person), with pick-up (every 15 minutes) and drop-off at the Westfield Vancouver Mall (see their website for operating hours).
Whether you have been before or this year would be your first, the 2011 Independence Day at Fort Vancouver will be an experience you wont forget!
