The day was May 10, 1869. It was the day when the people of the Pacific Coast would meet up with the people of the Midwest. They met at a place called Promontory Summit, Utah. A railroad worker drove in a Golden Spike that would mark the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. It was here where the Central Pacific Railroad who began building the line from Omaha, Nebraska met with the Union Pacific Railroad which began building their line from Sacramento, California. It was at this point where passengers for the first time since the beginning of the United States of America were able to get from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean by train.
Today, passenger and freight service no longer pass through here, and the town of Promontory Summit no longer exists, but many rail lines have been built from coast to coast since then. You can visit the Golden Spike National Historic Site, and from May through October you can see demonstrations of how the two railroads came together including the arrival of the two steam locomotives and a reenactment of the driving spike ceremony.
The Golden Spike National Historic Site is operated by the National Park service. It is located in northern Utah about an hour drive from Salt Lake City. "The important to budget travel is to prepare onward. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our thoughts. Arranging and consuming our travel budget carefully is a concern for most families. Reducing expending and costs, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain accomplishment and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal finances is really small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, no matter whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel expenses!..".
