Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, Halloween travel destinations

Tractor-drawn, hay-filled wagons were once solely an East Coast tradition. Thanks to the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, Westerners can now too enjoy the rustic experience. At the Griffith Park Old Zoo, get lost in endless hay bales and mayhem; where 15ft ghoulish clowns roam freely with a school of creepy little 200 year old zombie children.

General admission is open from Thursday-Sunday. Ticket prices include the hayride and the carnival at $25 for both. Add in the hay maze for another $10, or upgrade to a front-of-the-line pass bringing the total to $50 each person.

Tickets are $3 off during the presale and they will go up in price after October 17th. Caution: Only cash will be accepted for all onsite ticket purchases.

The forest of Griffith Park provides a nightmarish backdrop of complete darkness and isolation as the tractor pulls its victims into emptiness. Built in the 1900s, the Old Zoo has had countless rumors of evil spirits dwelling within this unholy land. These spirits may be the reason why past zookeepers received reports of animals acting strangely and abnormally violent.

To combat the evil a church was built directly in front of the Zoos entrance. Legend has it that on October 9, 1910 the entire community packed inside the church for a much-needed exorcism. Mysteriously, the doors all locked and the church went up in flames. Some say that phantom fires can still be heard crackling alongside bears, monkeys, and lions all howling into the night.

The Safety Information section of the Hayride website warns patrons of a High scare, high startle experience. Therefore the hayride is not recommended for children 8 years and under.

Group rates are available. For 20 or more people ticket prices range from $22-$47 each. Libras and Scorpios are welcome to celebrate their birthdays at the hayride by purchasing a horrifically haunted party package.

Private hay-filled wagons can be reserved for up to 40 people at only $1,175. This includes the haunted hayride, the hay maze, the carnival, and front-of-the-line passes for each person. That is an $825 savings!

Wander around the grounds in an atmosphere reminiscent to the renaissance. Weave vulnerably through a hay maze plagued by mutilated monsters and their clenching clutches. Also, watch out for carnival rides controlled by headless operators.

The Old Zoo will host the hayrides from 5-10:30pm Thursdays and Sundays; 5-12am Fridays and Saturdays. Standard carnival food will be available.
