Is this a sign the recession is ending? I'm not sure, but this jester-related report made me smile, so I'm passing it along.
Western River Expeditionshas offered family-focused adventures for the past fifty years, but for the first time they're adding something - or someone - new to the experience: The River Jester (TM). This specially-trained guide joins their river rafting expeditions with the sole purpose of enhancing the experience for the younger traveler in what I imagine to be a kind of a humorousIndiana-Jones-as Babysitter role. The idea is that the River Jester (TM) will free up the parents and relatives for some adult time together, or just add an interactive, enteraining dimension to the experience. Is Western River Expeditions tired of diving after lost iPods dropped by kids who are too tech-addicted to instant entertainment put them away for the length of the up to Class IV rapids? Possibly.
On the Salmon River Canyons Family Magic trips, the River Jester (TM) provides bedtime stories and songs, a special Children's Dinner with food and fun, and age-appropriate guidance and skills coaching. Multi-generational families are welcome and the youngest age for participating is just 5 years old.
I'm still grinning, especially over the fact that the River Jester is trademarked. But it's the holidays, and if a few athletic and charistmaticJesters are finding new work, I'm all for it.
Trips meet and end in Lewiston, Idaho (closest airports: Lewiston, Idaho or Spokane, Washington). 2011 trip departures are July 11,18, 25, Aug 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.
