Mid-March Rist Canyon review

Rist Canyon is a favorite for anyone in Northern Colorado who enjoys twisties and amazing views, but there's always the question as to when it's ready to ride. Not only is Rist well-loved for its motorcycle friendly qualities, but it's notorious for it's often unfriendly conditions any time of the year. Because this March has been unseasonably warm, the lure of the canyon is great.

Despite the amazing riding weather the week of March 11, Rist Canyon is still a gamble for even advanced riders. While surprisingly clear at lower elevations, road conditions get challenging quickly. Gravel is plentiful, as is slushy, muddy runoff in the shadier areas. If you can't wait any longer to take in the amazing view at the top, make sure you take it slow and as upright as possible through any water on the road, and look well ahead to plan your route through the corners.
