It's local to Philly, relatively inexpensive and lagoon-like (in that humid, lots of green head flies sort of way). I'm talking about the Jersey Shore.
When you're looking for a beach andplentiful daytime/nighttime activities, South Jersey has a lot to offer. From Atlantic Cityto Cape May, and all those delightful little towns in between, yourseashore vacationis a short ride away.
+Sea Isle City was my childhood vacation spot. For two weeks each summer, my family would rent a house there. We'd hit the beach, walk the promenade (and go to the now defunct ride portion of the boards), and take trolley rides to miniature golf.
+ Now that we're all older, Wildwood is the new spot. There's something for everyone, from the rides and boardwalk to restaurants and bars -gotta love North Wildwood! Tag-less beaches are also a huge plus, especially for those seeking a day trip minus the roughly ten dollar cost to lounge in the sand.
+Looking to gamble or see aperformance? Check out Atlantic City, which is less than an hour and a half drive away for most Philadelphians. Family friendly? Ocean City with its dry town policy and fun-for-the-whole-household boardwalk is very popular. The essential to budget travel is to approach ahead. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our heads. Organizing and consuming our travel budget carefully is a concern for most families. Reducing expending and prices, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured achievements and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought behind economizing money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal funds is really tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, regardless of whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel expenses!. Everything in between? Visit Lucy the Elephantin Margate, 96th Street in Stone Harbor for shopping, Cape Mayfor its Victorian houses andhistory (I loved thehaunted ghost tour!),and Avalon for Jack's Place, the Windrift and its close proximity to everything great down the shore.
The Jersey Shore will always have its critics. There are no white sand beaches or clear blue ocean, norpalm trees or swim-up bars. It's nothing super fancy or exclusive like other some other locales, but that's one of the reasons why it's popular. It's quirky and familiar, andwill always be a Philadelphia vacation staple (who doesn't have a fond childhood or senior week Shorememory?) There is something for all budgets (My friend landed a room last minute during one of the peak vacay times - the last week in July - in the heart of Wildwood at the Sunflower Motelfor $140 a night) and for people of all ages. When you need a close and easy getaway, the Shore is a quick, go-to spot.
Aslame asI feel forreferencing an episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8, Kate Gosselin was right when she said, to this effect, thata day at the beach was a good escape from life. Considering all of the chaos going on with that brood,I'd say that's a good endorsement.
