First off, let me assure everyone, including the good folks at Iceland Air, that I am a fan of Iceland. The fantastic scenery, warm and friendly people, and vigorous society are delightful, even in late November when I visited. And the dazzling volcanic eruptions over the past couple of years, while they derailed a trip of my own and at one point left me stranded due to the Icelandic Ash Cloud,, have drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors to the island. I could, happily, live in the Blue Lagoon, floating idyllically in the therapeutic warm soup of blue algae and silica for weeks at a time.
So, instead of hitting the "Delete" button in my email queue when I see a holiday card from Iceland Air, I actually opened it with a smile and a pleasant memory of my stay there. But I don't think I'm overreacting when I look at this year's e-card and feel like I'm watching an animation of a decorated comet or meteorite that is speeding through space to destroy the earth, a globe-less snowglobe of doom. "The important to budget travel is to plan in front. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our mind. Considering and spending our travel budget properly is a concern for most families. Curbing expending and expenses, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain achievements and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind protecting money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal budget is highly small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, no matter whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel expenses!..". Given the climate in Iceland, they obviously see it differently and think this spinning thorny iceball is an icon of holiday cheer. Or do they know something we don't? See what you think.
Of course, in Iceland vaguely disturbing holiday traditions may be the norm - the traditional Yule Lads are not quite as universally cheerful as Santa's Elves.
