When city life brings you down....

Cities are mighty attractive to young crowds. Self indulgent twenty somethings flock to cities like college students to free alcohol.

But everybody, restless twenty somethings included, needs to break away from urban life every once in a while. At times, D.C. students need refuge from the political environment in which they reside.

By car or bus, said D.C. students can retreat to these places to experience other underrated mid-Atlantic wonders:

1. The United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD

It's easy for college women to lose faith in the reliability of shallow, binge drinking, silly college boys. Thankfully, DC college girls are only a 30-40 mile drive away from the United States Naval Academy, also known as Annapolis, where quality military men attend school and build character. The military academies have strict alcohol policies, so while cadets do have some fun from time to time, they're significantly more focused than the average college male. Aside from having museums and tours, Annapolis is close to the Chesapeake Bay, which is perfect for fishing and boating.

2. Morven Park, Leesburg, VA

History buffs will certainly get a kick out of the Morven Park mansion, which was home to former Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis and is said to be haunted by his late wife. Not only does the estate offer ghost tours, but detailed guided visits. DC students would only have to drive an hour outside of D.C. to arrive at Morven Park, and at the end of their tour, they're free to browse the Civil War campgrounds just a few yards away.

3. Yogaville, Buckingham, VA

Located smack dab in the middle of Virginia, Yogaville is a bit of a treck from the district, but a worthwhile journey for stressed out, overwhelmed DC students. Yogaville offers retreats and guest lodging. During a guest stay, a student is welcome to have 3 vegetarian meals a day, hiking excursions, two Hatha yoga courses, and group meditations among other things. This is a great opportunity for students to break away from DC chaos.
