October is already here, and the schedule of fall is upon us. With school, work, and extracurricular activities it's fun to get away for the day or weekend, and the Angola Prison Rodeo provides and opportunity to do just that
Every weekend throughout the month of October is the Angola Prison Rodeo, ahistorical event that was started over 40 years ago in 1965. Although it didn't start out as a public event it has grown into a large event that has fun for everyone.
Gates open at 9:00 AM, with the rodeo starting a 2 PM, every Sunday in October. The admission fee is just $10 and children 2 and under are free. In addition to the rodeo there are booths with crafts made by the prisoners as well as food that ranges from hamburgers to jambalaya.
The rodeo events include Grand Entry, Bust Out, Bareback Riding, Wild Horse Race, Barrel Racing, Bull-Dogging, Buddy Pick-Up, Wild Cow Milking, Bull Riding, Convict Poker, and Guts & Glory. It is an event like no other, and as a family we try to make it every October if possible.
The rodeo even has it's own web site that provides driving directions, ticket purchasing, and history of the rodeo. So check your calendars and plan for a day of unforgettable fun for the whole family!
