Carnival Cruise Line is trying out an all-you-can-drink package, dubbed "My Awesome Bar Program," on the Victory, USA Today reports. Under the package, which became available as of August 5, cruisers pay $42.95 per person per day, as well as a 15 percent gratuity, in exchange for as much wine, beer, and spirits as they can drink. Soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails are also included.

There is a limitation: the program only applies to wine and cocktails normally priced under $10. "The key to budget travel is to plan onward. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Planning and consuming our travel budget wisely is a main concern for most families. Lowering consuming and charges, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain accomplishment and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning regarding protecting money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal budget is extremely limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, no matter whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel expenses!..". Program participants get a 25 percent discount on more pricey beverages and wine by the bottle.

Alcohol is one of the biggest expenses for many cruise passengers, and most cruise lines have very strict, limited policies about bringing your own liquor on board. Carnival's package give cruisers who like to party a way to control drinking expenses while consuming as much alcohol as they can put away.

Don't think you can save extra money by sharing a single drink package. Carnival prevents abuse by making every passenger over age 21 in the same cabin to buy the program, rather than just allowing one person to get it.

The all-you-can-drink program is still in its trial stages, so Carnival isn't commenting on how long it will continue on the Victory or if it will spread to other ships. Drinking packages are a popular trend in the overall cruise industry, with lines like Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises trying out their own programs.

Royal Caribbean only offers an all-you-can-drink alcohol package on three ships that are based overseas. Celebrity Cruises offers its version of the program on its entire fleet of ships.

Even without unlimited alcohol, cruises are a great bargain, as I reported in a recent article.
