Just a week from now, on Friday, April 15, 2011, the CF Riders will leave from Birmingham, Alabama on a 10-week, 14,000-mile trip that will take them through 43 states; this Nationwide Ride for Life will not only help spread the word about CF but will also raise money to help families afflicted by CF.

The plan for this ride began just a short 10 months ago. "The important to budget travel is to approach in front. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Considering and consuming our travel budget wisely is a main concern for most families. Curbing spending and charges, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured accomplishment and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind protecting money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal finances is really tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel charge!..". Brian Johnson, a young man with Cystic Fibrosis who will turn 38 just before the ride begins, had a vision of doing more to help others afflicted with CF. So with much prayer and guidance from God plus help from friends and family, Brians plan and ride is ready to take off.

As most would agree, any trip lasting 10 weeks is a huge undertaking especially when one has a job and a family to support. On the job front, Brian has it covered with an employer, Georgia Power, who allows him to do some of his work from home on a regular basis and will require only that he continue to log in and work on projects while on this epic Nationwide Ride for Life journey. So after a day of racking up the miles on his 2010 Harley-Davidson CVO Softtail Convertible, Brian will power up his computer and rack up some hours for Georgia Power.

Speaking of that CVO, Brian has some wonderful friends at Heart of Dixie Harley-Davidson in Pelham, Alabama. The folks at Heart of Dixie helped facilitate this purchase for Brian. Brians previous motorcycle was a Sportster and while a great bike, it wasnt exactly the best for Brian and this adventure. Brian is not a tall man and this bike fits him perfectly.

The Harley Owners Group (HOG Chapter) at Heart of Dixie (HOD) members have become fast friends with Brian and his wife, Christie. A group of HOD HOG members will ride with Brian as he leaves Birmingham next Friday and makes his way to Jackson, Tennessee for the first stop on the Nationwide Ride for Life.

At Jackson, Tennessee, the folks at Bumpus Harley-Davidson will host a rally in support of CF Riders and will lead the ride into Memphis the next day. The owners of Bumpus HD in Jackson are Scott and Angie Bumpus; their son has CF so this cause hits home for them.

Other supporters of Brian, CF Riders, and the Nationwide Ride for Life either with goods, services, or donations include: Laps for CF Foundation (the partner for charitable donations); the Basinger Design Group; Golds Gym of Birmingham (Pelham), Alabama; Wolverine maker of Harley-Davidson footwear; Leo Angelo Photography; Beth VanSickle Sunflower Studio; Dennis Munden of Motorcycle Maps; the band LEX; Cystic Life community; Big Fish Coffee.; and Suncoast RV in Calera, Alabama who helped arrange for a chase vehicle for this journey.

Perhaps the greatest support Brian is receiving is from his family. Brians wife and daughter along with Brians father and step mother will be following Brian for the entire trip in the above mentioned chase vehicle. The chase vehicle will also serve as Brians office as he completes is required hours of work for Georgia Power.

Readers of this column can also contribute by purchasing Road Grind coffee, awareness bands, pins, patches, or decals or by making a donation to help cover the cost of fuel, food, and lodging by visiting CF Riders website.

Those who wish to support Brians Nationwide Ride for Life by actually riding with him for a few or several miles, can do by taking the Five Rider Challenge. Invite five of your friends to join you and encourage each of those five friends to invite five of their friends and each of those friends invite five friends and so on. Each rider is asked to make a voluntary suggested donation of $10.00 to this worthy cause.

Be sure to subscribe to this column to receive updates on when the Nationwide Ride for Life will be in your area.
