Ardenwood Farm offers pumpkins, wizards, and spooks in East Bay

Ardenwood Historic Farms popular pumpkin patch returns to the most colorful California farm in the Bay Area this fall. The areas biggest, oldest and only organic farmstead pumpkin patch opened on October 7 and continues with harvest events and spooky surprises through Halloween. Located in the East Bay near Fremont, just off Highway 880 at Highway 84, Ardenwood is a patch of history, now a publicly owned East Bay Regional Park nestled in a small forest in the hills. "The key to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our heads. Settled in 1857, the extensive farmstead was named after Ardenwood, the forest in Shakespeare's play, As you like it.

The pumpkin patch has reached its peak, with corn picking, squash, pumpkins, and fall's bounty ready for harvest time in the fields. Since all of Ardenwoods crops are organic, thousands of families look forward each year to the return of organic, heritage plantings as well as the soon-to-be jack-o-lanterns.

But, there's more to Ardenwood farm than its tasty, freshly picked produce, colorful pumpkin fields and cornstalk bales. The farm has special surprises on Harvest Festival Time weekends beginning October 13. Don't miss Brian Scott and his Wizard Training Show on the Patterson House Lawn, plus blacksmith demonstrations and more. The farm offers historic horse-drawn train rides, a cafe, costumed 19th century musicians, and heritage activities like doll-making. There is a special event fee of $8 for Harvest Festival visitors.

Reserve time to tour the famed Patterson House, the old-fashioned farmhouse at the heart of this heritage working farm. Patterson House is a 19th-century country estate including a beautiful mansion and elaborate Victorian Gardens. The Farm exhibits agricultural practices from the 1870s to the present, demonstrating the transition from horse-powered to horsepower farming. See old trains, ride a historic steam train, and view other farm equipment.

Ardenwood Historic Farm is offering Haunted Railroad rides plus the Haunted Candle Light House Tours on several weekends in October.

Ardenwood Historic Farm is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. There's also fun nearby. See the J.E. Perry pumpkin patch plus the Fremont Haunted House starting in early October.

Halloween Haunted Carriage House. Each year The Candlelighters transform the historical Carriage House in Fremont into a ghostly encounter in nearby Fremont.
