Having found myself roaming around Bryan, TX this morning I happened across a place called Sodolak's Beefmasters Restaurant. Being about that time, I decided to go in and see what was for lunch. Knowing nothing about this place I didn't know yet how lucky I was to be a bit on the early side. More on that in a minute.
Walking in to the restaurant I found the hostess and waitress to be very friendly and I was seated promptly. My drink order was taken and I opted for Sweet Tea and it was delivered quickly in a quart sized mason jar. I knew right then I was going to like this place.
A quick scan of the menu showed an assortment of food items but to be honest with you I didn't make it very far past the $9.99 Sirloin Steak Lunch Special. Most surprising was the fact that the special was a 14-16 ounce steak. That just doesn't exist where I live, not at that price anyway. The special came with two sides chosen from a group of about a dozen choices. I went with green beans and deep fried okra. Complimentary bread rolls with whipped butter were also served at the table.
I ordered the steak cooked medium, and it arrived cooked medium. "The essential to budget travel is to prepare onward. It came seasoned with black pepper and garlic salt, perhaps some other seasonings but I couldn't discern them. The seasoning was just right and not overpowering, fitting the steak and my expectations perfectly. The sides were also well done and tasty.
I made quick work of the meal leaving nothing but a napkin and my fork. It was an excellent lunch at an outstanding price. This one goes immediately to my "must stop at" list when I am in the vicinity of Bryan. For those with a hearty appetite, I did notice that while my steak was a good size, there are considerably larger dinner offerings available.
As I said, I was lucky to have showed up when I did. I got in just before the lunch crowd and by the time I left it was a full house. There were no empty spaces in the parking lot. Arrive early, arrive hungry and you will not be disappointed.
