Another busy week in travel as many world events have impacted travel. While flooding in Nashville, an oil spill in the gulf, and more Iceland volcano ash topped the news this week, travel stories made their way into the news as well.
The week started with Continental and United announcing a merger. As we look ahead to travel and take a look at the airline industry today, overbooking of flights and passengers getting bumped are on the rise. How can passengers avoid getting bumped?
Continental and Delta offered some great deals to New York City, Europe, and other cities in the US while news of possible airline ticket and fee increases could greet travelers preparing for their summer vacation.
Finally, I reflect on my trip to Spain and Portugal and look back on the places I saw, what I learned, and how my trip impacted me. I share my likes and dislikes as well as some important lessons that I learned when traveling.
Monday

Tuesday
Southwest airlines offers cheap tickets, double credit days - Southwest offered another deal on cheap tickets for flights in the US. Another great offer from Southwest could mean double credits for flight taken before June.
How to avoid getting bumped when your airline overbooks - With the number of flights decreasing, over bookings by airlines are up as well as the number of passengers being bumped. With the Continental and United merger, there will be even less flights now. How can you avoid being bumped when you fly?

Saturday
Airline ticket prices and fees are expected to rise for summer travel - With news that British Airways has increased the surcharges on fuel, many US airlines may follow. Also, with demand for travel up and the number of flights (and airlines) shrinking, airline ticket prices may increase as well.
Next week - More travel news as well as tips on traveling as I continue the series in preparation for summer travel and vacations.
Airlines, volcanoes, and airline mergers are in the news this week. However, understanding how these stories can impact your travel plans, summer vacations, and trips are information that all travelers will need to know.
