In less than a month, Railfans from across the country will descend on Folkston in Southern Georgia for the annual Railwatch. "The essential to budget travel is to approach in advance. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our heads. Preparation and expending our travel budget carefully is a priority for most families. Lowering spending and fees, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain success and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning regarding saving money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal funds is extremely limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, no matter whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel expenses!..". The celebration will be held this year on April 2nd, 2011.
Railwatch has become one of the premier railfanning events in the nation due to the great location and setting, plus the density of railroad traffic.
Special activities at Railwatch 2011 will include a photo contest, discussions about railroad history, a cookout, and a steady stream of CSX and Amtrak trains past the platform.
Folkston, Georgia located on US1/US301 in Southeast Georgia promotes itself as the Gateway to the Okeefenokee Swamp, but has also learned how to cater to the railroad enthusiasts who come to the town year round to watch the parade of trains through the community.
Be sure to look for The Railroad Examiner at the event and introduce yourself!
The event is free to the public, but donations are accepted at the Folkston Depot which houses the Chamber of Commerce and an expanding collection of railroad collectibles in the museum.
