Regardless of how much you decide to travel while abroad, you should expect to spend some time and energy adjusting to a new culture and alternative ways of operating. This could range from a unique way of greeting one another (i.e. in certain parts of Europe friends greet each other with varying amounts of kisses on alternating cheeks, while in Japan it is customary to bow), to adapting to different customs, food, and available amenities.

Anticipate that your typical amenities may not be available while traveling. For instance, air-conditioned houses and businesses are very common in the United States; however, in much of the rest of the world air-conditioning is an alien concept. Furthermore, some hotels have air-conditioning, but charge an additional fee to use it. Not to mention, depending on where you are in the world, access to the basics, like running water and refrigeration may also be limited.

Also, while traveling you will frequently encounter unfamiliar languages, which have a way of wearing on even the savviest travelers. "The key to budget travel is to plan in advance. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the fact of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our thoughts. Preparation and spending our travel budget carefully is a main concern for most families. Lowering consuming and costs, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain success and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning regarding economizing money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal funds is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!..". Even if you dont know the language(s) that are spoken around you, at the end of the day you may be surprised by how exhausted you feel since your brain has been working harder than normal trying to grasp some understanding out of the foreign tongue(s). Such unanticipated reactions are yet another reason why its good to plan recovery days, as such relaxing days may help relieve unwanted stress.

If you travel during high tourist seasons, expect to battle your way through busy streets and to wait a fair amount of time to see any popular tourist attractions. Also, understand that locals may be a bit frustrated by the number of tourists, and may be less friendly as a result. This is why it is a good idea to try and plan your trip for the off-season, if at all possible. If you travel in the off-season, you will likely have an easier time finding affordable flights and lodging, and you might be surprised by just how much easier/more affordable it is to travel.

Wherever you travel, expect the unexpected. The more mentally prepared and adaptable you are, the better off you will be in any situation.
