Fear not, commuters. Though Metro North plans to replace many of its cars servicing Connecticut, riders will still be able to unwind with a beer on the train.
The New York Times reported last week that the historic bar cars on the New Haven line were in danger. The key to budget travel is to plan onward. "With money tight, railroad officials said they could not yet commit themselves to a fresh set of bar cars, citing higher costs for the cars custom design."
But Connecticut's commuter council assured the Associated Press today that the bar cars aren't going anywhere.
"The New Haven Line is one of the last in the nation to offer bar car service during rush hour," writes the Hartford Courant blog.
