Ballet Austin

Despite its Wild West image, Austin is more than just yee-haws and gun slinging. What most tourists dont expect from the Texas capital is a vibrant arts scene and one of the countrys largest ballet academies. The Butler Dance Education Center has been devoted to the arts since the 1950s.

In every way the academy gives back to the Austin community. Even without expertise in toe, individuals can sign up for a multitude of classes offering everything from hula dancing, to pilates, to hip hop and jazz dance. Exercise and dance classes take place year round and cater to beginners and professional athletes alike.

If youre not ready to make your child one of the 800 students to enroll each year in the ballet academy, then opt for a delightful night out to enjoy one of the seasons shows. The Austin Ballet hosts traditional classics such as The Nutcracker during the holiday season and staples like Swan Lake and Cinderella.

What grips the season ticket holders however, is the unique blend between the timeless and the novel. Peter and the Wolf is followed by a tribute to Frank Sinatra, while Coppelia is accompanied with The Firebird. The building itself is Texas size, boasting a 34,000 square foot facility.

Extra events mark the seasonal calendar such as Not Afraid of the Dark The Show That Glows! which is just one of the events offered that incorporates the entire family, and Food for the Soul, which is a night devoted to charity and supports the local food bank.

Every year 10,000 men, women, and children come together to share their love of dance free of charge individuals are invited to Austins Night of Community to witness a night of symphony, costumes, and top class performance.
