If you are traveling through the south to experience its rich Civil War history, like many people do, don't miss the Museum of the Confederacy and the White House of the Confederacy. The museum houses a large collection of relics and manages to stay surprisingly objective, while still conveying the pride of the south.

The current exhibits are educational and interesting.Among them are: Between the Battles, which tells the story of a soldiers life while on the sidelines of war, Art of the Confederacy, Virginia and the Confederacy, and The Confederate Years where you explore how the Confederacy was formed in the first place.

The White House of the Confederacy is an exhibit in itself. Formerly the home of Jefferson Davis and his family, the house has been restored to look as wonderful as it did in the mid-nineteenth century when it hosted its fair share of influential guests. A guided tour is the best way to learn about this unique home. They are held daily and usually last 40 mins.

Open from 10 am-5 pm Monday-Saturday and Noon-5 pm on Sunday, the hours for both places are very convenient. Its location on 12th and Clay Streets puts this site only two blocks from the Capital in the historic Court End neighborhood. The key to budget travel is to plan ahead. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our heads. Organizing and expending our travel budget carefully is a main concern for most families. Reducing consuming and prices, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding economizing money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal funds is highly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, regardless of whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel costs!. If you are coming from outside the city The Museum of the Confederacy can be found off of Exit 74C on Rt 95. After taking the exit turn right at 11th street then go two blocks to Clay Street. There is plenty of parking available in the adjoining hospital parking lot and they will gladly validate your ticket. When you are visiting, be sure to buy a combo ticket since separately the museum and White House are $9.00 but together they cost only $12 (discounts for Seniors, kids, and AAA are available).

Other Richmondarea Civil War sites include: Chimborazo Medical Museum. Richmond National Battlefield Park's main visitors center on Tredegar Street, Belle Isle(now a park but was the site of a Civil War prison camp), and Cold Harbor Battlefield.
