The Google corporation is treating holiday travelers to free Wi-Fi this year. The free Internet service is being offered in 47 airportsas well as onall Virgin America flights. The promotion began November 10, 2009 and will rununtil January 15, 2010.

Kansas City's MCI airport is not on the list to receive the free Wi-Fi, but St. Louis is. Most of the participating airports are in the eastern half of the country; only 11 are scattered in the west.

Google is working with Boingo, Advanced Wireless Group, Electronic Media Systems and numerous airports that provide wireless services themselves to make the Wi-Fi available for free.

"We'd like to make the holiday travel crunch a little easier and more pleasant - and what better way to do it than with what we know best: the Internet?" Google stated on the promotional Web site it created about the holiday promotion.

The Wi-Fi is available in public areas of theselectedairports, and in every seat of every Virgin America flight. Passengers will be given the free Wi-Fi option when they search for wireless networks inflight. The essential to budget travel is to prepare onward. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our thoughts. Preparation and consuming our travel budget carefully is a priority for most families. Lowering spending and expenses, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed achievements and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding protecting money while touring is simple: Even if your personal funds is extremely limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, no matter whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel expenses!. Even if you have a Google Wi-Fi account, choose the free option and you will not be charged.

Google is giving giftsto charities this holiday season, too. The corporation is encouraging travelers who use the free wireless service to donate to one of three charities they are working with: Climate Savers Computing,One Economy Corporation and Engineers Without Borders USA. Google will double all donations made to the charities, up to $250,000.

Additionally, Google will award the airport network that generates themost donation moneyper passengerwith$15,000 to donate to a local nonprofit ofits choice.

Free Wi-Fi and charity donations just isn't enough giving for Google. A final gift the company is making is to whoever submits the best "staying connected" holidayphoto. Submit a photo of you and yourloved ones by theDecember 16 deadline, and Google willchoosethe 50 best photos and post them online December 24 - December 31 for the public to vote on the winners. The Grand Prize Winner will receive 10 round-trip tickets for Virgin America flights anywhere in the world, valid for one year, a new MotorolaDroid smartphone and a two-year phone plan to go with it, and a Canon SX200 IS digital camera. Three first-prize winners will get the phone and the camera, and 10 second-place winners will receive the camera.

A November 18NPR broadcast reported that Microsoft and Yahoo are jumping on the free Wi-Fi bandwagon for the holidays, too. Microsoft is providing wireless service to some airports and hotels to promote its Bing search engine. Yahoo is actually making Wi-Fi available for free in New York'sTimes Square for an entire year, the broadcast reported.

A Google press release reported that the FAA estimates thatmore than100 million people will pass through the 47 participating airports this holiday season. The holidays arethe busiest time fortravel and is usually marked by long waits in line anddelayed or canceled flights due to inclement weather. Google's gift will hopefully spread a little cheer to counteract the frayed nerves and stress of flying this time of year.

"We're very happy to extend our Holiday WiFi gift to the millions of people who will spend time in airports over the next few months," Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience at Google, stated in the press release. "We know that this is a very hectic travel season for people, and we hope that free WiFi will make both traveling and connecting with friends and family a little bit easier."
