Neil Simon's The Odd Couple starts two-weekend run at Cecil College, Maryland

An alcohol-addled divorcee invites a recently separated fastidious friend to share living space, and within a short time their differences in philosophy and execution of life result in hilarity. If you guessed this description is of the TV show Two and a Half Men I will have to give you the points, but you're only half right. Two and a Half Men is merely the latest rendition of the clashing-buddy-roommate genre that traces its origin directly to The Odd Couple.

The Odd Couple, written by Neil Simon and first performed on Broadway 45 years ago, is shockingly not very well known today. The characters, popularized on Broadway by Walter Matthau and Art Carney, then in a movie with Matthau and Jack Lemmon, and then in a 70s sitcom with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall, are not remembered by most folks younger than 40 years old.

And that's a shame.

Covered Bridge Theatre at Cecil College is going to try to remedy this recognition problem by presenting The Odd Couple in all of it's mid-60s glory starting March 11 for two weekends.

Q1: But is a 45-year-old comedy still funny? Q2: Is this rendition funny? Answer 1: Yes, just like your favorite Uncle Al. Answer 2: You will have to be the judge. As a performer in this production I cannot give an unbiased assessment. "The essential to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the truth of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our thoughts. Also keeping in mind that while traveling, regardless of whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!..". (It is funny!)
