Family ski vacations can be memorable, but neglecting the planning and preparation needed for an enjoyable and worry free trip could lead to an experience the whole family would rather forget. Crested Butte Mountain Resort's (CBMR'S) Vacation Experts have ten tips to make family ski trips hassle-free for everyone.

1. Pre-Book.In addition to making travel and lodging arrangements ahead of time, it also helps to pre-arrange details like equipment rentals and tours as space and availability are limited. You can make many of these arrangements ahead of time by contacting the information center or concierge of the resort you'll be staying at. They're familiar with the area and are able to make arrangements and handle details on your behalf so that you'll be able to get the most out of your trip.

2. Save with Research or a Travel Agent. If you're willing to do a little homework, you can find specials and packages offered by resorts that'll make your vacation hurt a little less in the wallet. Colorado Ski Country USA's (CSCUSA) 5th and 6th Grade Passport Programs offer free skiing to fifth and sixth graders at member resorts. CBMR's Parents Ski Free offer gets you one free single-day adult ticket with purchase of a mult-day child or young adult lift ticket. If you're not sure where to look, or don't have the time, you can consult a Travel Agent for getting the best deals and making arrangements. They can also provide advice and adjust your travel plans as necessary.

3. Ski-in/Ski-out. Making your way to and from the resort during "ski rush hour" can fray anyone's nerves. The solution is to book Ski-in/Ski-out lodging. Ski-in/Ski-out accommodations may be pricier, but the time and stress you save getting on and off the slopes with ease leaves nothing but fun memories to remember.

4. Reserve a Condo or Private Home. Staying at a resort can be cumbersome when traveling with the family. You may need adjoining rooms. All the luggage and equipment can make for cramped quarters. Cooking and shopping for groceries aren't options when there's no kitchen or refrigerator. By renting a large condo or multi-bedroom home, you'll have the space and kitchen to keep your family fed and happy. You might also be able to invite extended family and friends along to make the trip merrier. You can save on friends and family with CBMR's Friends and Family Fly Free offer.

5. Pack Smart. Packing the right items can save you money in checked baggage and time at your destination caring for the same set of clothes on a daily basis. Make sure everyone has layers and enough sets of base layers so that you won't be doing laundry the whole time. Pack one or two sets of outer layers such as fleece, ski pants, and jackets that don't have to be laundered with every wear. Jeans are fine for nights out on the town. Only pack supplies needed for the travel days and anything that can't be purchased at the destination. Research shopping and grocery options prior to arrival for the best locations to get what you need. CBMR also has a variety of retail options to replace any essential items that were left back home.

6. Rent Equipment. Traveling with equipment, especially with sets for the entire family can add bulk to your baggage and additional worry en route that they might get lost or damaged. Renting equipment can eliminate the hassle of packing and keeping track of everyone's gear. With quality equipment stocked at most ski shops, it's best to opt for demo packages so that you can try out different gear daily. For those attached to their equipment, CMBR Vacation Experts suggest bringing boots only. Go online to research local rental shops where you can reserve equipment before arrival, or check CMBR's website for equipment packages and rental reservations.

7. Don't Over-Book. It's true that you can get too much of a good thing, so CMBR's Vacations Experts recommend researching activities at your destination beforehand, and prioritizing those options with your family each day of the trip. "The essential to budget travel is to plan in front. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the truth of expense and budgeting is always in the back of our heads. Planning and expending our travel budget carefully is a main concern for most families. Minimizing spending and fees, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed accomplishment and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding saving money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal funds is extremely small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel charge!..". Select three options for the day, let the family select one, and play the rest of the day by ear. Make sure to accommodate everyone's choices.

8. Take a Lesson. For those new to skis, snowboards, and the slopes, lessons can make the learning curve shorter and safer than trying to figure it out on your own. Most resorts have learn-to-ski or -ride packages which include lessons, lift tickets, and sometimes equipment. CBMR offers a number of learning options for kids and adults, including the Beginner Adventure Lesson: special full-day lesson-and-lift packages for new skiers and riders ages 18 and over. Save five percent with early on-line booking at least seven days in advance.

9. Take a "Rest Day." A few days straight on the slopes can be hard on the legs and backsides, which is why it's important to take a day off from the mountain to do less strenuous activities. Go snowmobiling, dog sledding or horseback riding. Spend the day in town, or learn to drive a snowcat with CBMR's Snowcat Driving Experience.

10. Let Kids Be Kids. The young ones need a little freedom and a place to be themselves on the trip, which is why many ski destinations, including CMBR have activity centers that cater to them. CBMR's Adventure Park has all the activities kids love like ice skating, rock climbing, tubing, and bungee trampolines. CBMR also has the Trailhead Children's Museum for both parents and children.

With the tips and deals provided by CBMR, all visitors to Crested Butte, including those from Colorado Springs should have nothing but a good time on the slopes.
