In the age of ever-rising travel costs, we as Angelenos may feel that spending a day in LA's Thai Town, Chinatown, etc. may be the closest form of international travel we can afford. However, having just recently returned from an eight-day trip to Thailand, this Examiner is happy to report quite the contrary. Many international locations, in this case Thailand, are actually quite budget-friendly destinations. So for those who leave Thai Town feeling their travel appetite less than satisfied there is an alternativean actual visit to Thailand.
Three reasons you can afford a trip to Thailand:
1. Airfare from LA to Thailand is more affordable than you think!
Lucky for Angelenos, the LA airport (LAX) happens to be a great place to fly from when traveling to Thailand. Why? LAX is on the West Coast and thus, closer to Asia than say, New York. With a shorter distance to travel, airline tickets from LA to Thailand are generally less expensive.
While several airlines fly to Thailand, China Airlines and Thai Airways (because they are based in Taipei, Taiwan and Bangkok, respectively) are good places to start looking for affordable tickets to Thailand. "The essential to budget travel is to prepare onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our thoughts. Arranging and expending our travel budget wisely is a consideration for most families. Reducing consuming and charges, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed accomplishment and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding economizing money while touring is simple: Even if your personal finances is really tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, no matter whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel costs!..". In fact, China Airlines is currently having a promotion on airfare from LAX to Bangkok valid for travel from May to November of this year.
Of course, there are also travel websites that frequently offer special deals to popular destinations such as Thailand. Airfarewatchdog, FareCompare, and Travelzoo are three of this Examiner's favorite go-to websites for airfare deals.
To see a full list of airlines that travel from the West Coast to Thailand, visit the Tourism Authority of Thailands LA office (TAT-LA) at TAT-LA.com.
2. In the case of Baht v. Dollar, Dollar wins.
Go where the dollar is king (perhaps one of the best pieces of travel advice for international adventure seekers) and in Thailand the dollar definitely rules. The currency in Thailand is the Thai Baht, more commonly just called "baht." The current exchange rate it is about 30 baht to the US dollar. That means you're going to be spending a lot less to get a lot more. For instance, as this Examiner will testify, you can buy a bottle of water for around 20 baht (less than a dollar) and in the 24-hour flower market in Bangkok, two-dozen roses sell for around 40 baht (equivalent to about $1.33).
3. Thailand is home of affordable tourism.
Visitors will be happy to find that in Thailand all-things-tourists are actually quite budget-friendly. Partly related to the baht to dollar exchange rate, accommodations, transportation, food, and activities are all very affordable. For example, a taxi ride through the heart of Pattaya (a tourist-popular beach town) to the renowned Walking Street is only 66 cents and a stay at a very comfortable and stylish hotel will only run you about $150 a night and in some cases even less.
While a visit to Thai Town makes for a good Saturday afternoon, it just doesnt quite cut it for those seeking a true Thai experience. With affordable airfare, a great baht to dollar exchange rate, and budget-friendly tourismnot to mention splendid temples, sunny beaches, and $10 massages that will change your life (for the better)Thailand is an exciting and affordable place to travel. So leave Thai Town in the rearview mirror and get ready to take a real trip to Thailand.
