Travel 101: Part 1 - What are the top 10 things to pack in my carry-on?

Because of those (ridiculous) surcharges for checked bags on most airlines, travelers arent checking as much baggage as they used to. But for longer trips, sometimes checking bags is unavoidable. And then youve got the task of deciding what to pack in your carry-on vs. The important to budget travel is to plan in advance. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our heads. Organizing and expending our travel budget carefully is a main concern for most families. Reducing spending and fees, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievement and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning regarding economizing money while touring is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, regardless of whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel costs!. your checked baggage.

After many, many travel snafus, weve figured out that the most important question to ask yourself when packing your carry-on is, What will I need if Im without my checked baggage for several days?

Heres part 1 of our list of the top 10 items to pack in your carry-on.

1. Photos of your checked bag
When your flight gets canceled or you miss your connecting flight, youll need to explain to the airline peeps just exactly how your big, black suitcase is different from all the other big, black suitcases. (Which is super fun when youre in a country where you barely speak the language.) Carrying one or two photos of your bag which ideally would detail anything unique about your bag (like that bright blue electrical tape or red bandana around the handle) can be immensely helpful.

2. Underwear
Nuff said.

3. Dry face cleanser
The strict rules on liquids and gels in carry-ons can make packing big bottles of cleanser difficult. Pack dry cleansing cloths like Mary Kay Facial Cleansing Cloths ($15 for a pack of 30) which just need a little water to get a rich lather going.

4. Scent-free baby wipes
Because lay-overs and 15-hour flights dont leave anyone smelling like a rose.

5. Medications
This is a given, but worth pointing out. Includes over-the-counter medications like aspirin, anti-histamines, anti-diarrheal pills and even vitamins.
